Sunday, April 29, 2007 — Open House Sunday
Dear Centenary Church Family:
I hope many of you will be present at our 10:15 AM Worship service this Sunday for our first-ever “Open House Sunday” at Centenary. We hope to welcome a number of visitors and share with them in the praise of God. Throughout the Worship service members of our congregation will be sharing brief highlights of some of the areas of our ministry with all of us. Giselle Esquivel Cordero will bring the word to the children before they and youth through the 12th grade are invited to share in Sunday School classes. My morning Message, The Shepherd’s Voice, will be based on the beloved Psalm 23 and on the Gospel reading from John 10:22-30. Our Chancel Choir will sing the text of Psalm 23 to a beautiful melody in Brother James’s Air by Gordon Jacob. Our Celebration of Found Coins will be designated for the Red Bird Mission in Hendersonville, KY.

A Sermon Delivered by The Rev. John D. Painter at Centenary United Methodist Church Metuchen, New Jersey April 22, 2007
Text: John 21:1-19
After these things Jesus showed himself again to the disciples by the Sea of Tiberias; and he showed himself in this way. Gathered there together were Simon Peter, Thomas called the Twin, Nathanael of Cana in Galilee, the sons of Zebedee, and two others of his disciples. Simon Peter said to them, “I am going fishing.” They said to him, “We will go with you.” They went out and got into the boat, but that night they caught nothing.
Just after daybreak, Jesus stood on the beach; but the disciples did not know that it was Je-sus. Jesus said to them, “Children, you have no fish, have you?” They answered him, “No.” He said to them, “Cast the net to the right side of the boat, and you will find some.” So they cast it, and now they were not able to haul it in because there were so many fish. That disciple whom Je-sus loved said to Peter, “It is the Lord!” When Simon Peter heard that it was the Lord, he put on some clothes, for he was naked, and jumped into the sea. But the other disciples came in the boat, dragging the net full of fish, for they were not far from the land, only about a hundred yards off.

Dear Centenary Church Family:
We have not spoken or sung the word “Alleluia!” in our Worship since Ash Wednesday, in keeping with the ancient liturgical traditions of the church. But this Sunday we will sing and shout “Alleluia!” as we celebrate the Resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ from the dead. I hope many of you will join in the celebration…

April 1, 2007 (Passion/Palm Sunday)
Texts: Luke 19:28-40; Philippians 2:5-11
After he had said this, he went on ahead, going up to Jerusalem.
When he had come near Bethphage and Bethany, at the place called the Mount of Olives, he sent two of the disciples, saying, “Go into the village ahead of you, and as you enter it you will find tied there a colt that has never been ridden. Untie it and bring it here. If anyone asks you, ‘Why are you untying it?’ just say this, ‘The Lord needs it.’” So those who were sent departed and found it as he had told them. As they were untying the colt, its owners asked them, “Why are you untying the colt?” They said, “The Lord needs it.” Then they brought it to Jesus; and after throwing their cloaks on the colt, they set Jesus on it. As he rode along, people kept spreading their cloaks on the road. As he was now approaching the path down from the Mount of Olives, the whole multitude of the disciples began to praise God joyfully with a loud voice for all the deeds of power that they had seen, saying,
