Dear Centenary Church Family:
Greetings from Valley Forge, PA, and the Greater New Jersey Annual Conference. Your Lay Member to Annual Conference, Giselle Esquivel Cordero, and I gathered for the Service of Tribute and Sacrament of Holy Communion with over 1,000 lay and clergy members from the 600+ United Methodist churches in our Greater NJ area yesterday morning as we began four-days of Holy Conferencing in this historic venue. Last evening we were blessed by the dynamic preaching of the Rev. Tyrone Gordon from St. Luke’s UM Church in Dallas, TX, and as we return to the Conference setting this morning, Pastor Gordon will lift our hearts in preparation for the day.

Dear Centenary Church Family:
On The Day of Pentecost, we come to the end of the Great Fifty Days of Easter and celebrate the birth-day of the Church with the coming of the Holy Spirit upon the disciples in Jerusalem. We will mark this special Festival Day of the Church in our 10:15 AM Worship this Sunday, May 27. Red will be the color of the day…and we invite/encourage you all to wear something red to represent the flames which hovered over the heads of our forebears as they received the power of the Holy Spirit.

Centenary UMC Safe Sanctuary Policy
Purpose: Our purpose for establishing this Safe Sanctuary Policy is threefold:
1. We seek to demonstrate our commitment to the physical safety, emotional well-being, and spiritual growth of our children and vulnerable adults. To this end, Centenary United Methodist Church is registered with the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office under “Megan’s Law.”
2. We seek to protect our staff—both paid and volunteer—from potential wrongful allegations of abuse.
3. We seek to limit the extent of legal liability of our church.

A Sermon Delivered by The Rev. John D. Painter at Centenary United Methodist Church Metuchen, New Jersey May 6, 2007
Text: Acts 11:1-18
These weeks after Easter are a good time for the Church as it always has been to ask: Is the resurrection of Jesus capable of evoking a new people, a new family that is different and dis-tinctive?
Proof of the power of the resurrection is the quality of the Easter community as we see it in Acts. Few barriers were stronger in those early days of the new Church than the wall between Jews and gentiles. Israel had survived through the ages because of its restrictive dietary laws that prohibited it from sharing at the table of gentiles.

Dear Centenary Church Family:
We will gather this Sunday, May 6, at 10:15 AM in our Sanctuary to celebrate The Fifth Sunday of Easter and to share together in the Sacrament of Holy Communion. I will share a word with the children, after which they and youth through 12th grade are invited to participate in Sunday School classes. My morning Message, Breaking Down the Barriers, will be based on the readings from Acts 11:1-18 and John 13:31-35. Our Chancel Choir will sing Hallelujah, Amen (From “Judas Maccabaeus” by George F. Handel) by Patrick M. Liebergen during the Offering, and I Remember You by Gene Grier during the serving of Holy Communion. Our Celebration of Found Coins for May is designated for the United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR) Emergency Appeal for New Jersey Flooding.
