Dear Centenary Church Family:
We will gather in our Sanctuary for Worship at 10:15 AM this Reformation Sunday, October 28. Assistant Pastor Terrilisa Durham Bauknight will bring a word for the children, following which those from Pre-K through 12th Grade will be invited to participate in Sunday School Classes. My morning Message, A Magnifying Glass or a Mirror?, will be based on the Gospel reading from Luke 18:9-14. We will also share in the reading from the Epistle: 2 Timothy 4:6-8, 16-18. Our Chancel Choir will sing the lively Anthem, Rejoice, Triumphantly Rejoice! by J. Houston & S. Lawrence. Our Celebration of Found Coins is designated for the 2007 CROP Walk for World Hunger, which was held last Sunday afternoon.

Acolytes Needed
Young persons in the Fourth Grade and above who are interested in serving as Acolytes in Worship are invited to contact Acolyte Coordinator Leslie Hale (732-906-8581) or the Church Office (732-548-7622 or CentaryUMC@aol.com) to receive information and to sign up to serve on a specific date this fall/winter. Pastor Painter and others from our Worship Committee will be available to assist any new Acolytes to undertake their important responsibilities. Those who have served as Acolytes previously are especially encouraged to place their names on the sign-up sheet in the Narthex.
UNITED METHODIST WOMEN
Campbell Soup Labels – or rather the barcodes- are still being collected. There is a listing of exactly what is collected located on the United Methodist Women’s bulletin board adjacent to the men’s room off the narthex. You can put what you have collected in the basket in the library. These barcodes are sent to the Red Bird Mission in Kentucky, a United Methodist Mission. They use these coupons to acquire educational equipment for their mission school.
PECANS, PECANS, PECANS: United Methodist Women will again be selling pecans, cashews, pistachios, candies, trail mix, etc. this year. So don’t go out and buy any pecans from anyone else. We will have the pecans, etc. in the fall, hopefully by mid-October for your holiday baking.
MITTEN TREE: Once again we will have our Mitten Tree in the Narthex. Look for it right after Thanksgiving. Bring hats, gloves, mittens, scarves until early December. These gifts will be sent to Red Bird Mission in Beverly, Kentucky – the heart of Appalachia. This is a United Methodist Mission and these gifts are greatly appreciated by the folks who live in the area and go to the Red Bird Mission School.

Prayer for the Week of October 28: With hands held high we celebrate your love, O God, so wide and deep, so complete and all-encompassing. How can we ever express how thankful we are? How will we ever tell you what you mean to us, especially when our spirits are low and our lives filled with regret? How can we share the indescribable joy that lies within us as we live in hope and walk within your grace? Thanks be to you, O God. Amen.
I look forward to sharing with many of you in study, Worship and Christian Fellowship this Sunday at Centenary.
Shalom, John
